Northern Hills Woodworkers' Guild

Recent Events

This spring (2010) we've had a number of great demos at the meetings, including one on segmented bowl turning
by Larry Reuppel. Here are some shots of members at recent meetings...

The September 2009 meeting featured a really interesting demo on making predator calls on the lathe.
It was presented by David Kegler, and held at Larry and Druse Kellogg's shop.

The August meeting was held at the shop of Bill Clenendan, who runs Dakota Sharpening.
Bill sharpens table saw blades, dado heads etc. Since the demo, several members have
had him work on thier blades and we are unanimously pleased with the results.
Bill's phone number is 645 2661.

On Saturday, July 25th, the Northern Hills group had their second annual Picnic in the Park.
The event drew 31 people and was an extremely pleasant afternoon.
Club members gathered at one of the shelters in the City Park in Spearfish to enjoy great food and company.
A small amount of business was conducted, as the picnic replaced our regular monthly meeting for July.
The day started out hot, but by 4PM it had cooled quite a bit, and we were very comfortable in the shade.
Many thanks from all of us who snarfed the brats, salads and desserts to
the crew who organized and set up the event,
and a special thank you to our president, Corky, for that extra mile he goes!

Each year, in addition to our monthly meetings, the club holds a number of
learning, social and community events.
For example, in 2008 we held a spring fundraiser, a summer picnic,
a fall movie night and bonfire at the park, and a winter Christmas dinner at a local restaurant.
We also had a vendor booth at Arts in the Park, a very lively Spearfish summer festival.

Among some of the recent learning events were presentations by Bob Buchanan
on the toymaking program at Orange County Woodworkers,
a log sawing demo with a band mill by Larry Kellogg,
a demonstration on laying out and cutting handcut dovetails by Ken Froelich (below),
and an introduction to bowl turning by Will Bellucci and Rachel Scheiffel.

During 2008, we had a booth at Festival in the Park in Spearfish, and
held a fundraiser during the summer for flag case materials...
